Linear Measuring Equipment

At the very least, you will need a 20+ in ruler to complete your printer. The largest shaft is 440 mm (17.3") long and the 20+ in rule accommodates this measurement. I also highly recommend that you acquire an inexpensive set of digital calipers with both SAE and Metric outputs. Calipers are much more accurate than straight edge rulers and can be invaluable when calibrating the machine and measuring parts.

Normally I advise individuals to purchase Mitutoyo ABSOLUTE Digital Calipers, as I feel that they are the best compromise of price, quality and durability on the market. Unfortunately they cost $120 and many people can not justify the expense, especially if they are only going to use the calipers for this project. I have listed more reasonably priced, though admittedly much lower quality calipers below.
